Introduction

With the courses it offers, the Department of Economics and Management aims to respond to the need for professional and scientific training in society and the labour market in the fields of business, economics in the broadest sense and statistics. Through the numerous degree programmes and study paths, students of the Department of Economics and Management can deepen their knowledge in four main areas: economics, business economics, mathematical statistics and law. As of the 2009/2010 AY, with the implementation of the university system reform (Ministerial Decree No. 270 of 22 October 2004), prospective students must meet the entry requirements and take a compulsory admission test in order to enrol in all degree programmes.

The Department is a centre for higher education for general and business economists who, based on the qualified training they receive, can occupy management and leadership positions in the world of work and, in particular, in industry, credit, finance, insurance, commerce, public administration, research centres and national and international economic planning bodies. Furthermore, the degree programmes prepare students to practice the profession, to teach and for research.

Having a bachelor’s degree opens so many professional doors and young graduates are guaranteed good opportunities to help them quickly start their professional career. To facilitate this, the Department is particularly dedicated to maintaining relationships with businesses and institutions through setting up internships and signing over 340 agreements with organisations and businesses for students and recent graduates.

For graduates who intend to continue their studies, the Department of Economics and Management offers master’s degrees, first- and second-level Master courses and research doctorates – the latter in particular focuses on training for carrying out scientific research. The Department’s international nature arises comes from participation in student mobility projects (Socrates/Erasmus Programmes) and from organising an International Semester, during which internal lecturers teach courses in English.

The Department is situated in the city centre, in the Piagge area, next to the Congress Palace complex and is a ten-minute walk from the train station. It housed in a modern building which is frequented by more than three thousand students every day during lecture and examination periods.
